Interesting Weather

Wind and rain...... So much of it. The waves have been so big that I can see about 3 ft high clumps of seaweed that have been thrown up from the waves crashing so hard. The power was out for about 4 hours today but back on now...Thank goodness. I took a ride with my neighbour today to see what had happened down the road but it was not as bad as I had expected and only a couple of trees down. The flooding here is not so bad as in Comox or Courtenay but the ground is very saturated and puddles are definitely accumulating. Loving the warm weather though, it was 13 degrees here today - very nice.

So today I was working by the daylight coming in the window and working on my Carriage House Samplers Pattern of the Mairmaid's Song.

I really love this sampler. I am hoping to get it done before the New Year cause that is when I will be starting the 12 month sampler - By The Bay Needlework sampler Here
Serenity Harbour Sampler - Just beautiful, if you have not signed up for it, there is still time to do that. It starts in the first week of January. I love all her stuff and have ordered patterns from her before.
I think I have ll my floss sorted out for that. I found a seller on ebay that has some very beautiful overdyed floss so I have picked out that and it is now on its way. Her page is here
I have also been working on a new pattern which I will show you a little later on this year as it is almost done now.
I did a bit of snooping for some old time crochet patterns and found a very pretty one but it is a bit hard to follow along with the pattern. I seem to have overcome it but still have a few rounds to go yet before I get it totally finished.
WOW don't know if I pinned this already...but it's worth a second pin!!! has a pattern on the page...scroll down a bit to find it!!!
Pattern is here

This picture is taken not too far from my place, at Spider Lake, there have been so many reports of cougars around here this year. Really amazing but just means we all need to take a few precautions when we are out. Love having the wild animals around us but better to know if they are near so that we can keep the kids safe.

I am hearing that we are in for more rain and wind again tonight so please keep your fingers crossed that we don't lose the hydro again :-)
Have a great rest of your day.....

Hello, Long Time no Blogging

I have had quite a year. We won't go in to the sordid details but I am back. So, what did you do all summer? I have been working on so many things here, don't know where to start really.

The Love Entwined quilt is still in its early stages but I have been working on it as often as possible
Here are a few pics of my progress (which has been slow) Yes, I do have the centre done but took it back out for now. Need to sew it down yet.

I found a really crazy crochet block pattern on pinterest and had to buy it to try it. It is made from the outside to the inside. Yep, and even after I bought the pattern, I did not see how it could work but it certainly did.
This is the starting row.

And the whole thing is only 5 rows and it's done.
Here are the next steps and you can see how it kinda turns back in on itself and then you just pick up the loops and draw them all together. After, just stitch a row of dc's and your block is finished.

This one is also very beautiful

The pattern is located here.

This year we had a very tiny and wonderful Thanksgiving. My son and grand daughter came over and we all had dinner at my mom's place. It was great !!
Photo  Photo

I realize that this is a bit of a mish mash of things here, but there is so much happened in the last 6 or 7 months. I am in an apartment with a balcony out front that overlooks the ocean. It is so beautiful here and even though I am on the wrong side of the highway, I still love it. See so many interesting things and the sound of the waves rocking in are great.

Not too far down the highway, we stopped and had a look at all the sea lions taking a break

Also, had a wild storm here about 2 weeks ago and you can see that here.

A couple of other projects that I have on the go are these bom's from this year.

Sycamore Rose

And also downloaded the pattern from the yahoo group for P3 designs, she has so many beautiful patterns. I loved this free BOM so much that when I saw her newest design,

Catch Up

It's been a long time since I blogged. I was over to Salmon Arm BC about 1.5 months ago on a mini trip to check out some houses with a friend of mine. I love Salmon Arm but find that it is very hot there and so was glad that it was a mini trip. We stumbled upon an old house that at first glance has a very weird feel to it. I guess it kinda felt haunted cause it was so lost in the growth of trees. It was getting dark as well so I am sure that added to the persona of the house but I cannot imagine that someone would let a house that at one time must have been very beautiful to end up like this.

Another of a beautiful sunset while sitting on my porch.

Vancouver Island Salmon

Are you following the free  quilt from http://jenifromthewillow.blogspot.ca/
It is absolutely adorable so far. I have about 4 of the blocks done and still working on catching up. Check it out.

Thought I would share this video clip with you  I was visiting my friend Shady - of Shady Shores Beach Resort and she told me that the salmon were so plentiful this year that they were clustering and jumping out of the water. So of course I went to see. The video is a bit shaky but still cool to see this

Thinking of mermaids today

Isn't this just the greatest mermaid that you have seen? I love it. I found it on pinterest and have just started stitching it, so thought you might also like it. I guess that moving back to Vancouver Island has gotten me back to thinking of all things related to the sea and myths of it. It is wonderful to wake up and sit on the porch, with the smells and sounds of the ocean around me. Today there was a congregation of Blue Herons fishing just offshore and yesterday, the Ravens were absolutely terrorizing a bald headed eagle. The eagles make some very cool sounds when they are annoyed with the other birds. I wonder sometimes, why such a big bird tolerates the smaller birds and does not just go after them. Instead, patience seems to be their approach.
I have been working so much lately that it has seriously cut into my time to blog, stitch and sew. So, I hope that everyone is well and if you like to crochet, please check out my pinterest along the side of the blog and also my needlework board of pins. Some amazing stuff out there and I want to do all of it, but I of course do not have that many lifetimes available to me - pity.

Have a great rest of the day ......

Monday stuff

Good morning. I hope everyone had a great weekend. And all the Dads out there had a great Father's Day. I have been working on a few things here but not all quilting. I will post some pics below on this post but was just thinking about something.
I spend a lot of time looking at pinterest. I am addicted to it, all that beautiful stuff and enough free patterns for at least 7 lifetimes and if you browse bloglovin or even just search google for free patterns of any kind and free BOMs, add another 7 lifetimes. So you see where I am going here. I spend so much time "looking" that I have not time for "doing". I have about a gazillion patterns stored on my hard drive "for Later" when I have time. If I spent as much time "doing" as "looking" I would have managed to finish at least some of those patterns. Then, you need fabric or crochet supplies, or embroidery thread for all those beautiful patterns and then you have search down those things or run out to your favorite store to buy them.  More time not Doing. So, I need to figure out a way to get away from the addiction of looking in the first place.
Do you have that problem too. The whole craft thing is really getting insane.
I am working on 4 quilts, Love Entwined by Esther Aliu, one called Fraktur, Forever Blooming which is one of the pics I am posting of Block 1 (six is already out but I am way behind) and Ladies of the Sea by Sue Garmin. Plus some of my own designs. In crochet I have 3 items I am working on, one of which is below and in cross stitch I have the Jane Austen free bee that I am working on and I also ordered a carriage house design and another one from By the Bay.
Seriously how screwed up is all this?
I need to stop looking and dreaming and start more doing. So, that was my resolution. If I am going to get any of this finished in this lifetime.
So, here are a few things that I have got on the go in pics

This one is my favorite pattern.

This one seems to be bowing abit in the center, not sure why but I hope it goes away....

This one is the first block of the Free BOM Forever Blooming. Not finished yet as you can see.

The other thing is, I am training for a new job, and seem to be having some issues with information retention. lol. It seems like so much to learn a new thing now that I am older. I hate saying that "now that I am older" lol. But.... I am so I need to accept that. Tests and tests plus plenty of slides and information. I can't fail any either or I get put back into the job pool. No stress really "NOT"
So that has been my last couple of weeks. I am hardly getting to see the light of day lately. So on that note, I have another test tomorrow and need to go over those notes again and again and again..... You get the idea.

Here is one of my hummingbirds at the feeder. She is such a beauty.

Have a great rest of the day

My Rug

I don't know if you have seen the new wave of crocheted rugs on the internet or not but I have just made my first one and wanted to share the picture with you.

Most of the rugs I have seen are made from cord. The kind they use for piping in upholstery, cotton and anywhere from 1/8 round to 1/4 inch round but.... I wanted this one to be soft. I used the heavy wool from bernat for baby blankets. And it worked out perfect for me. It is the first thing my feet feel when I hop out of the shower. I did find that the softer wool does not lay as flat as one made of cord but I don't mind.

I had my first full day at my new job today and it seems like there are sooooooo many things to learn, I find I get really burnt out. Brain drain.....So, for tonight I am just gonna relax and watch tv and crochet for a bit.
My quilting has gone a bit by the wayside lately. But I am slowly getting back into it and hope to have more to share with you soon.

Have a great rest of the day...... YAY, its Friday.... enjoy the weekend too.

Hello and Last Part of the Cherry Tree Quilt

Good Morning. It has been a long time since I last blogged. So much has happened, don't know where to begin really.
As some of you know, I moved from Saskatchewan to British Columbia. Which was really just a move back home. I love the Island here, so many memories and friends that I have missed so much.
The trip here was pretty much un-exciting but there were a few tense moments for sure. I managed to totally bypass going through Calgary and not really sure how. I took a wrong turn and kept going and it dropped me back out on Number 1 on the other side of Calgary so that was cool. I get a bit nervous driving through big cities that I am unfamiliar with.
When we arrived in Rogers Pass it was to postings of Avalanche area do not stop keep driving. I had no problem with that cause you could see where a least 6 of them had come down previously and been cleaned up. So down went the accelerator and off we go - really quickly. I did not like the looks of the beautiful snow hanging out that far on its own on the mountain tops. I know, I am a bit of a chicken but I just have too many quilts, needlepoints, crochet and cross stitching that I want to do yet. LOL

Just before I left Sask I was going a bit crazy. So many things to do in such a short time. I had to get all my things packed and fit into my truck, I got rid of so much stuff but I had only been in Sask for 7 years and so it was not as bad as if I had been there a lifetime. I sold some stuff, had a garage sale and provided family with some stuff that I felt I did not need anymore. Also, the small space I had to fit everything into made it easier to scale down the unnecessary stuff. I was also working on finishing up the spring Mug Rug swap and getting it ready to send to Zoe in Africa. I had left out my sewing machine till the last minute and then disaster struck. The day I was ready to head out, I wanted to wash the mug rugs before I sent them to make sure they were color fast and guess what??? They bled. I was so stressed about it, I threw them into the truck and thought I would deal with them later on. So they took the journey with me with red bleed marks, and me stressing about whether I was gonna have to re-make them or could I get the bleed out. Luckily, the bleed came out and it really was not such a dilemma as I felt it was before I left. Guess arriving safely here made it seem not quite so bad in hind sight.

I am starting a new job this week. One that I have been preparing for since before I left Sask. It is working from home. So I start my training for that tomorrow. One more stressful incident out of the way. YAY.
So, I have had about 2 weeks to get my stuff set up and my apartment into some kind of order with my sewing machine set up and a place to set up all my fabric and such. So now I am all good and ready for just about anything. Touch wood. LOL.

I have been running into a lot of people that I have not seen in years and it is very funny because they all say to me " You decided to come home finally" I love the sound of that.....
Yes, I am home.

My view from where I am at is incredible.
Here are a few photos. The first is the view from the balcony, the 2nd is my son and grand daughter whom I finally have gotten some time to spend with them. The third is the beach and the fourth is my poor kitty in the front of my car when I was driving. He is all shaved as you can see and since this is his third trip in the car for at least 3 days, he is quite calm and taking it all in stride.

They are building a small stop for burgers across the road. I think I will be trying that out :-) There are a group of seals that come in on high tide and they are alot of fun to watch them playing. I also set up a humming bird feeder out on porch and they are just starting to come to it now. I will post pics when I get some of them.

Here are my mug rugs from Zoe, she did a beautiful job on them. WOW And a beautiful silk scarf with giraffes on. Plus a bracelet of beads, too cute.

And last but not least I am attaching the last file for the cherry tree quilt if you have been doing that one. The link for it is here.

Have a great rest of the day everyone.

Moving Day

I have not posted in awhile because I have been so busy with getting things ready to move. I am leaving on the 6th of May, moving back to Vancouver Island. I am really looking forward to this move although it has been a rough go getting ready and I still have a long journey ahead of me. My mother is also moving back to the island.
I will be a bit delayed on posting the center square of the cherry tree pattern but it will be coming to you about mid-may and that gives me some time to get a bit settled in my new place.
I am also hoping to start a stitch along sometime in June so if you are a cross stitch fan, check back for more information on that.
There are always the horrible good byes when you move and also, my daughter is in Weyburn and will be moving to Nova Scotia in the near future so, we will be at opposite ends of Canada and that makes me very sad.  On another note, my son is in British Columbia and now I can see and be close to him. Would it not be nice in this time of families moving so far apart to just put them all back together in one spot. I have some very good friends on the Island that I am so looking forward to seeing as well. Always such a mix of good and bad in everything.
I will try to post photos of my journey if the internet permits, the Rockies make such great barriers to communication but I am sure that I will be able to post some stuff.

Hope you are all well and enjoying the stirrings of spring. Please no more snow - keep your fingers and toes crossed for me.

Have a great rest of the day.......

Crochet - Doily Patterns - Assorted Patterns - Snow Wreath Doily

Crochet - Doily Patterns - Assorted Patterns - Snow Wreath Doily:

Patricia Kristoffersen's Exquisite Doilies
Snow Wreath Doily

I have been re-kindling my love relationship with crochet and have been scouring the internet for patterns. As you know if you follow this blog, I love free stuff, but sometimes you just have to buy certain patterns. I just purchased the 2 above for such a minimal cost. The first doily was 2.29 with it being an instant download and I just love Patricia Kristoffersen's doily book which was 5.00 with it also being an instant download.

So, I have the snowflake doily halfway done and ran out of cotton. So, tomorrow I am off to town to get more.

Has anyone been called in for Jury Duty before? I just got a letter this week stating I have to attend jury duty on May 26 and I was suppose to get back to them within 5 days. Well, the letter went to another address and I just got it on Friday. The letter was post marked more then 5 days ago so I have to go in now and get that straightened out. Hope I am not already in trouble. That would be my luck lol. But I will not be living in Sask as of May 6th so won't be able to attend it anyway.

Also, I have such big news going on in my life. After 7 years of living in Saskatchewan, I am going home to the Island. I just got everything straightened out for my accommodations and can you believe I have a balcony that faces directly out across the road to the Georgia Strait. I can walk across the road and touch the ocean. I am just ecstatic about it all. I have my"at home job" that I start on the 3rd of June and had to kinda rush to get everything set up as far as place to live, telephone set up and internet but I think I managed it all and I am just so happy.
Saskatchewan is a nice place to live but I have missed the island and my friends from there for so long .... I have a great friend there named Char, I love her so much. We always went out on Fridays for Won Ton soup at the local restaurant. And hiking up in the mountains was one of the things I loved doing.
So I am leaving Sask on the 6th of May and heading out on my journey. I have a lot of packing and sorting out what I am taking and what goes but it is a good thing for me to go through the changes and get back to where I belong.
I will post pictures as I travel and share the drive with you..
Hope you have had a great Sunday.
I am just so far behind on my quilting stuff right now ....but I will post more as I make any progress.
Have a great rest of the day....

Cherry Tree Part 3 - the sides

Yay, its Sunday. Day of rest, for some, day of sewing for others. I have been working on some crochet stuff lately. I like really interesting blocks that I leave pretty neutral colored so you can really see the emphasis on the pattern and stitching itself.

These two were free patterns. They really are square but the photo makes them look a bit askew.
If you are on pinterest you can get these patterns off of my board called crochet. There are links there to the patterns and many more.
I think over the past couple years, with quilting so much, I have burnt myself out. I have many quilts on the go but seem to be putting them aside right now for a bit, in favor of working on other things. And also, the beautiful weather is finally making an appearance so I also like spending time outside right now.

Did you join up for the quilting gallery mug rug swap this time? My partner is from South Africa. I have only touched base with her once so far but need to get that going. So much to do lately.

Also, I am suppose to be starting a new job. This was one of those things that just dropped in my lap. It is a home based job which I have always thought was a good idea. I use to have my own home based business in British Columbia doing signs and graphic design. I did not too bad considering that I lived out in the sticks. I sold it when I moved to Saskatchewan. Since then I have worked for others almost constantly. But anyways, this job is from Sykes and you can find it on the internet Home Based Work
Most home based work I have found is usually just a scam, they always want money. But if you check out the link this one is a bit different.
So, I have to go through 2 months training first, which you get paid for. I am looking forward to it.

Next, I should give you the link to the 3rd part of the Cherry Tree pattern which will be the sides. One side is just to print the pattern and then, you need to reverse the other side. You will see if you are collecting or making the pattern, what needs to be done there. I am really bad for giving a great amount of details on my patterns as I figure that a lot of it is just common sense and the other part is that, if you quilt, you will already know what to do.
So the link is here.

I also received my pattern for the basket quilt Springtime. A very pretty pattern and I now have it on my list and will post as I make progress. LOL I don't think that will be for awhile.

Have a great rest of the day.....

2CELLOS - Thunderstruck [OFFICIAL VIDEO]

If your a fan of rock and roll especially AC/DC you gotta see this. Unbelievable. If your a Country Music person, you can skip this.

Cherry Tree Part 2

Goodmorning. Well, it is freezing here today. Freezing Fecking Cold that is. Today the temp is -29 but the feels like temp is -39, last nite the feels like went down to -44. I sure hope winter gives up soon.

So, I have fallen behind on all my projects but today is the day that I will hopefully get caught back up on as many as I can.
I am positive I won't be going outside for any reason lol. A tv day and quilting. Do any of you watch the Curse of Oak Island? What an interesting show and a mystery that I have always loved. I remember when my daughter was married in Nova Scotia - they went out and had their holiday there as well. I only went out for the wedding but she phoned me and said "Guess what I am looking at right now?" OAK ISLAND
Nasty girl lol.  Personally I think the treasure is Knights Templar stuff but that could be wishful thinking too.
Whatever it is, it has caused a lot of intrigue and mystery over its lifespan and also 6 deaths. The curse says 7 must die before the secret is revealed.
If you don't know about Oak Island - you're in for a treat. It is a mystery that pulls you in and won't let go.
Good primer here.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DF-TvQRDRHg.
The new series is on the history channel every Sunday nite. These guys are hopefully the ones to finally solve the mystery. And hopefully neither of them get killed in the process. I read that the agreement with the Canadian government was 1. If they find aritfacts, the government gets them. 2. If it is treasure, the government only gets 10%. So we will see how this round ends.

The other show that I love watching is The Vikings. Fictional of course but good none the less.
And I also follow Diana Gabaldon and her novels. Looking forward to seeing the new series based on her first book called Outlander.

I participated in the Mug Rug Swap, which I mentioned before in the blog. I received my beautiful mug rugs and many more things from my swap partner Karin Street in Kentucky. What beautiful work and the seeds I will plant this year to remind me of the kindness and thoughtfulness of others. Thank you so much Karin for all your hard work on this project.

Here is a picture of the mug rugs I finished and sent to her.

I loved doing that swap. It was my first one and I am sure now that I will participate in more. If you have never done swaps, try it.
I also sent along a pot holder from one of my potholder books. Although this one looks better as a doll dress lol.
Speaking of dolls and patterns, check out my pinterest -Free Doll Patterns, as I have added quite a few more this week.

Ok and before I forget, here is the link to the Cherry Tree part 2. This is the top and bottom border.
The main part of the border is 92.25 inches by 12.75 inches but please remember that you need to add your seam allowance on this.

So here it is again in case you missed the post with the first parts.

The pattern for the top and bottom border is here. You probably noticed that I changed the center block and I will upload that part next month and then we can start putting the whole thing together but until then, just do the parts and don't sew them together yet.
And in case you missed it. This is the first part here. Please email me and share if you are making this quilt as I would love to see your progress.

Well, I better get sewing or another day will go by and I won't be caught up again :-)

Have a great rest of the day.......
